Nothing on The Great Leap Sideways

Check out this amazing piece by Stanley Wolukau-Wanambwa over on The Great Leap Sideways. He writes, “Gossage’s are simultaneously anonymous and deeply biographical images that frequently appear to have been made just after the guilty party has departed the scene. They are vividly specific photographs of anything, everything and nothing in particular, and their magnetism flows not from their subject matter but from the enigmatic eloquence of their framing.”

Etudes de nu

Holding a copy of Germaine Krull’s Etudes de nu in your hands is a special event. The book (Librairie des Arts Décoratifs, Paris, 1930) is a rare find, with few copies available in public collections and even fewer coming up for auction. Those that do appear on the block can go for princely sums, some in the neighborhood of $10,000. Given the scarcity of the book, I was quite excited to find a copy just a couple hours away in the Ryerson and Burnham Libraries at the Art … Read more.

Life’s a Beach

Published in 2012, the limited edition of Life’s a Beach, with photographs by Martin Parr, made several best-of-the-year lists. The limited edition (copublished by Aperture Foundation and Editions Xavier Barral) is a wonder; you can watch Parr give a delightful walk-through of it here if you haven’t had the pleasure of holding it yourself. The book offers a near perfect combination of content, design, and production that magically recreates the intimacy and tactility of a family album.

In May 2013, Aperture Foundation published its “mini edition” of … Read more.
